Many of the most beautiful beaches of Mauritius are located in the Black River district, and Albion Beach in the center of Albion village is no exception.
Not to be confused with the Albion Club Med Beach further to the south, Albion Beach, or New Albion Beach, is a little bit more lively than its southern neighbour.
Located in the central part of New Albion, this beach offers great possibilities for either a quiet day out or an evening barbecue, or why not both! Access the beach and the village of Albion from either Bambous Road or from the village of Petit Riviere. Due to its location, most tourists never seem to find their way to Albion, and as such, the beach offers plenty of peace, quiet and space for everyone.
There are clean public restrooms available next to the beach, near the bus terminus, and the forested area behind it offers public barbecue areas as well as plenty of benches where you can rest your legs.
Early birds can buy fish as fresh as it gets, at the Albion fish landing station, where local fishermen come in with their catch in the wee hours of the morning.
There is a convenient supermarket right in front of the beach – the New Albion Supermarket, where you can buy your essentials. The neighbouring hole-in-the-wall takeaway Pizza Pipo, offers mouth watering pizzas at a reasonable cost. A refreshing treat when you have had too many samosas and curries.
If arriving with public transport, keep in mind that buses out of Albion typically stop running in the late afternoon, especially on Sundays and bank holidays, and taxis are few and far between.
