Blue Bay Beach

Blue Bay Beach is located in the village of Blue Bay, in the southeast part of Mauritius. This is one of the many beaches of Mauritius situated in the Grand Port district.

Conveniently accessible from both the city of Mahébourg to the north, and SSR International Airport to the west, Blue Bay beach is a beach popular with both locals and visitors to the island.

Most visitors come here not only for the unique shades of blue in the waters, but also for some of the best snorkelling in Mauritius. The bay is a shallow haven of coral and colourful fish in all shapes and forms.

Due to the shallow waters, the distance to the coral reef, as well as the large surface area, Blue Bay is a great spot for trying out your underwater camera. The waters are typically very quiet and clear, and the marine life offers splendid opportunities for underwater photography.

Boats offering snorkelling trips can be found in abundance near the main beach in central Blue Bay. For a few hundred rupees they will take you out for a snorkelling trip to some of the most spectacular snorkelling in Mauritius.

The increasing popularity of Blue Bay over the past few years have definitely left its share of “tourist feel” to the area, with several new hotels and guesthouses popping up in the surrounding neighbourhood.

To avoid the many beach hawkers and the hustle and bustle of central Blue Bay, the golden rule is to arrive early in the morning, regardless of the season. Parking is convenient at the parking lot right opposite of the beach, but be sure not to leave any valuables in the car.

Blue Bay is also accessible by bus from Mahébourg or Pointe d’esny, and the bus stop is right next to the beach.

As for facilities, Blue Bay beach sports all the usual facilities of a public beach in Mauritius, such as restrooms and showers, and there are plenty of snack stands and other eateries in the area.

If you’re looking for a peaceful, relaxing day at the beach, there are plenty of better options elsewhere, such as the neighbouring Pointe d’esny Beach, but for snorkelling the unique marine life of Mauritius, Blue Bay beach is hard to beat.
