Pointe aux Piments Beach

Pointe aux Piments Beach is located in the village of Pointe aux Piments, in the west part of Mauritius. This is one of the many beaches of Mauritius situated in the Pamplemousses district.

Pointe aux Piments Beach is also known as Le Meridien Beach.

Pointe aux Piments public beach totals some 3-4km, from Petite Pointe aux Piments near the resorts Le Victoria and Le Meridien, through Pointe aux Piments village and all the way up to Trou aux Biches.

The beaches around Pointe aux Piments vary in quality but a rule of thumb is that the closer to Le Meridien you get, the better the quality of both the sand and the seafloor.

The first public beach, if coming from the south, is just after Le Meridien (see gallery below for pictures) and is well worth a visit. It’s generally a very quiet beach and you will not find any sort of tourist activities here. On the other hand, it’s a great spot to while away a couple of hours in the sun, and enjoy the slow local life around the beach.

The parking area right next to the beach offers some good opportunities to sample tasty Mauritian food, with a few quality snack stands serving a variety of local cuisine at very competitive prices.

Further to the north, just after Le Recif hotel, the beach gets more quiet, and the seafloor also gets a bit more rocky. It’s easy to find your own private picnic spot here, but this area may not be optimal for swimming, mainly due to the combination of rocky seafloor and shorter distances to the coral reef.

Despite being only a couple of kilometres away from the hustle and bustle of neighbouring town Triolet, the beaches around Pointe aux Piments are refreshingly quiet. If you prefer a bit of solitude, don’t mind a stray dog or two, and can live without the usual tourist attractions and activities, Pointe aux Piments is a good spot to relax and recharge your batteries.

If you prefer more liveliness, a larger selection of food vendors, water sports activities and comfy beach chairs, head to the neighbouring Trou aux Biches Beach.
