Pointe aux Roches Beach
Pointe aux Roches Beach is located near the village of Cap Malheureux, in the north part of Mauritius. This is one of the many beaches of Mauritius situated in the Rivière du Rempart district.
The little red church in Cap Malheureux receives thousands of visitors each year, and tourists gladly take a dip in the busy bay that make up the shallow waters of Cap Malheureux beach.
Not that there is anything wrong with this of course – the view of Coin the Mire is stunning, the church is as beautiful as ever, and the shallow waters are optimal for the little ones. Snack stands are nearby and plentiful, restrooms are next door, and …
What most people don’t know though, is that a mere 300 metres away from the church and Cap Malheureux beach, on the other side of those big black rocks at the end of the beach, there is another beach, and it’s longer, wider and in all the ways you can think of – much nicer!
Pointe aux Roches beach is an easily accessible, quiet piece of tranquility, and a welcoming break from the smattering cameras around the red roofed church next door. Simply follow the bay around Cap Malheureux beach to the west, for some 300 metres, cross the black rocks, and voilà!
Apart from the tip to the east, there are hardly any rocks around here, and the sea floor is all soft and sandy. The beach is located right north of the bay, and needless to say – there are some strong currents here. In other words; do enjoy a dip – but be careful.
