Poste Lafayette Pointe aux Roches

Poste Lafayette Pointe aux Roches, Poste Lafayette, Flacq.

Poste Lafayette Pointe aux Roches is located in the village of Poste Lafayette, in the northeast part of Mauritius. This is one of the many beaches of Mauritius situated in the Flacq district.

The northern part of Poste Lafayette, or Pointe aux Roches in French, is composed of a large black rock landscape where the coral reef is very close to the shore. This creates a good and lively scenery with (at times) huge waves crashing in from the open waters of the north east.

Further down south, the beach itself is protected by the coral reef and provides for both a sandy beach and a sandy seafloor. The sand here is of the same fine powder quality as found in Trou aux Biches and Mont Choisy on the west coast.

Poste Lafayette is predominantly a residential area, with few hotels and even fewer restaurants, but you will find vendors selling Mauritian snack food around both the north and south parts of Poste Lafayette Beach and Pointe aux Roches.

The black rock landscape around Pointe aux Roches is a loud and fascinating experience. This is one of the few locations of the Mauritius east coast that is unprotected by the coral reef, and as a result, waves come crashing in from open waters.

The experienced trekker will find a challenging trek along the coast, all the way up to Roches Noires, but the rocky landscape is a slippery one and accidents are not unheard of.

Pointe aux Roches beach sports good facilities, with clean restrooms and a few forested areas to the north, where local families can be seen camping during weekends and major holidays.

About a kilometre to the north, the black rock landscape changes into sandy beaches again and continues for another kilometre or so, near the popular hotel La Maison D’ete. The avid beach trekker would continue all the way up to the wild scenery of Pointe de Roches Noire.
