Feature Icon Legend
Below are brief explanations of the feature icons presented with each beach.
|Restaurant or snack stand nearby|
|The pizza icon means that there is a snack stand or restaurant adjacent to the beach. Basically, it indicates if there is any kind of food and drinks available at or very close to the beach.
|Beach umbrellas available|
|This beach sports either public and fixed beach umbrellas (free of charge), or portable beach umbrellas for rent. Wherever there are beach umbrellas, it is very common that one can also rent beach chairs and other beach equipment.
|Good spot for Indian Ocean sunrise|
|This indicator means that the beach is facing the Indian Ocean horizon with a relative aspect (cardinal direction) to the east. Typically, most beaches on the east coast (and a few ones in the north and south), have the Indian Ocean shoreline facing the east.
|Good spot for Indian Ocean sunset|
|This indicator means that the beach is facing the Indian Ocean horizon with a relative aspect (cardinal direction) to the west. Typically, most beaches on the west coast (and a few ones in the north and south), have the Indian Ocean shoreline facing the west.
|Public restrooms / WC available|
|Public restrooms maintained by the Ministry of Tourism or the Beach Authorities are available at this beach. Sometimes this also includes freshwater outdoor showers. Public restrooms at beaches typically close around dusk or in the late afternoon.
|This icon indicates a beach worth visiting, for one reason or the other. Most visitors simply don’t have the time to visit all the beaches, so we tried to make it a little easier for you. Beaches marked with this one typically sports good facilities, are easily accessible by car and public transport and sport family friendly waters.
|Hovering this icon will give you the cardinal direction of the beach with four intercardinal points. The absolute cardinal points are N-S-W-E and the intercardinal points are NE-SE-SW-NW. This data does not take into consideration the aspect of the sun (sunrise/sunset) but instead references the absolute cardinal direction.
